Vorboils - What's New?

Version 2.06 (4.2.06)

General

  • Expanded the frames per second display to show the frames per second and the actual update & render world frame rates. F7 (FPS display) now F2.
  • Added the much requested global speed control. Can run in fixed (regular) speed or variable speed.
  • Added option to disable the wait for VSync.
  • Added option to set the message delay time (0 – 5 seconds).
  • Minor updates to the configuration dialog.
  • Built against new version of the compiler that prevents DEPs from occurring.
  • Improved the configuration help / settings / real time statistics display.
  • Disabled the nag screen (DEMO version only!) again!

Themes

  • Added load theme dialog. Now you can load a specific theme from a list.  
  • Added option to briefly show theme name when loading random or auto themes.
  • Added option to permanently show theme names.

Version 2.05 (30.1.06)

General

  • Trivial bug in the colour scale wallpaper routine fixed.
  • Added a ‘pause’ option – the P key.  

Tunnel

  • Added 7 sided tunnels.  

Textures

  • The tunnel’s individual texture layers can now be colour scaled (in real time), either random, red, green, blue, purple, yellow, cyan or grey. There is also an option to set the chance of a random colour scale.
  • Texture layers, 2 (lines) and 3 (stripes) can now be rotated. Also added an option to set the chance of rotation.
  • Expanded the dot & plasma layer’s diversity.
  • The “allow unfilled rectangles” option was not being saved in the configuration settings.

Version 2.04 (11.01.06)

General

  • Wallpapers can now be colour washed, either red, green, blue, purple, yellow, cyan or grey.
  • The screen resolutions greater than 1024 * 768 were not working!
  • Added display of actual screen resolution to the stats display.
  • Re-enabled the nag screen (DEMO version only!)

 Clock

  • Added four more analogue clock faces, Melted Smiley, Ying Yang, Square Polo and Marble Flower.
  • The analogue clocks ‘central pin’ colour can now be set.
  • The analogue clocks hands can now be either round or square.
  • The digital clock was not being displayed in the screen shot (if enabled).
  • The analogue clock hand colours were not being set correctly.
Version 2.03 (20.12.05)

General

  • Added option to enable dithering (to remove colour banding in 16 bit mode).
  • Added option to trap and prevent ‘sys’ keys, i.e. the Windows key, ALT-TAB etc (and disable sticky keys).

Clock

  • Added a 2D digital clock with various font options.
  • Improved the performance of the update clock routine (use faster camera switch and now only update the clock if we have a new time, i.e. once every second as opposed to updating it sixty times every second!) – OOPS!

Themes

  • Added some error handling in case we load a corrupt theme to prevent a crash.

Installation / un-installation

  • The setup executable now has version and copyright information.
  • Added prompt to allow the user to remove any user generated themes and screen shots during the un-installation process.
  • The Vorboils web site shortcut was not being uninstalled – fixed.
  • The screen saver preview dialog was not being called correctly on Win 98.

Configuration

  • Fixed typo in the Textures/Number of segments section.
  • Made the ‘change chance’ sliders more sensitive.
  • Added an ‘Are you sure…’ prompt when deleting a theme.
  • The reset to default option was not working for the lights and textures.
  • When resetting the clock defaults the clock faces list was becoming duplicated.

Version 2.02 (11.10.05)

Cube

  • The cube can now have a different image on each face!
  • The ‘Show Cube In Image Files’ option was broken – fixed!
  • There is now a default image for the cube faces.
  • Random spin wasn’t working as expected – fixed!

Version 2.01 (1.10.05)

Demo mode changes only

  • Small modification to lock Vorboils to just 4 static wormholes and removed the nag screen + demo logo cube.
  • Enabled option to create and update desktop wallpapers.

Version 2.00 (7.9.05)

General

  • Added wire frame mode!
  • General bug fixes / code tidy
  • Added extra stats / configuration display (added pages to stats display)
  • Added pop up message to show you where it has created the screen shot
  • Added option to allow Vorboils to start in 'locked' mode
  • Added 'disable interactive mode' - this means that any key press will terminate the screen saver
  • Added 'News' button in configuration. This automatically downloads news about new versions, WIP etc.
  • Added check to ensure that INI must be found rather than just loading default values

Textures

  • Increased the possible palette of colours for the chequered layer
  • When forcing new texture with the "X" key ensure we have new scaling and motion too.
  • Enabled the max textures option. This means that you can limit the number of texture layers on at the same time. So you can force Vorboils only ever to allow 3 texture layers on at the same time. This creates more diverse patterns!
  • Modified the 'dots' texture layer to produce small crosses too
  • Added option to allow unfilled rectangles for texture layers 1, 2 and 3

Tunnel

  • Changed the tunnel segments option to allow a selection of segments, i.e. 32 AND 64, instead of 32 or 64. Added a 48 segments option too. This allows for more 'flexible' tunnels
  • Added option to allow for 48 and 64 sided tunnels (enable only on top spec graphics cards)
  • Added X and y axis oscillation intensity - this allows for more 'wriggly' tunnels!

  • Added option to allow flattened tunnels - and chance factor of flattened tunnels
Clock
  • Added a 3D clock. This can be synchronized to the NIST Caesium clock and update your PC time. Choose from several styles, plus more! Send us your themes!

Themes

  • Added a themes option, this allows you to save/load/download/share your favourite Vorboils patterns!

Camera

  • Increased the max and default rotate speeds for nice falling down the tunnel effects

Configuration

  • Updated the 'thanks to' dialog to match the Vorboils theme
  • Added preview of cube image in configuration
  • Now use a XP style controls where possible
  • Tweaked the Vorboils logo and added copyright information

Installation

  • Updated the 'thanks to' dialog to match the Vorboils theme
  • Updated the various installation documents to make them easier to read and more consistent
  • Actually install the history.rtf and license.rtf documents to \docs
